Motivation at Work
There are many instances in our work life when we feel low on motivation. It’s like we keep thinking at the end of a hard day at work “Why I am doing what I am doing?” This could be very detrimental to our productivity and also self-esteem. Let us see some tips on how we can tackle this mind-set and ensure we are giving our 200% at work.
1. Identify and Define Clear Goals – It is extremely essential that we identify our goals when we are in the course of doing our Business as Usual activities. Does the activity being performed translate into a goal that we want to achieve? Even though the activity itself might be clichéd if it helps you achieve a specific goal then you must look at it through a long term prism rather than brood on short term inevitabilities. For example, it could be as simple as preparing MIS for P&L purpose even though the end goal is to win the trust of your boss as a valuable leader who can bring insights reviewing the MIS data.
2. Multi-Tasking – Sometimes when you feel that the work life has hit a dead end unable to come out of a particular type of activity and feel overwhelmed it is best to split your day or work week with different sets of activities to switch your choice and stimulate different parts of the left and right brain to keep you motivated
3. Get Regular Feedback from your Mentor – Take time to set up regular one-on-one with your mentor(s) to ensure that you get regular feedback on work done to keep you motivated. A small gesture of appreciation can do a world of good to your efficiency and kindle more innovation
4. Practice Role play – Think about your aspirations and interests and allocate time to self-review and practice role play at home in front of the mirror. It helps you present yourself appropriately at team meetings, ideations and keeps your motivation intact and reminds you of your aspirations and goal in hand.
So what’s getting in the way of you being motivated at work? Find out, and then find a solution.
