Did you know only 13% of people on an average are “Engaged” at work? Engaged meaning committed to their jobs and aim to make positive contributions to their organizations. The remaining 87% are either “Not Engaged” (not motivated at work) and worse even “Actively Disengaged” (unhappy at work) as per Gallup survey conducted across 142 countries.
There are primarily 2 types of motivators that help address this gap!
Intrinsic motivators:
Extrinsic motivators:

But to your surprise many research studies show that the effect of intrinsic motivation on performance was 44% greater than the effect of extrinsic motivation on performance. So we need to be careful not to fall into the trap of believing that extrinsic rewards have a linear relationship with happiness. Also as per another important survey it is important to note that if you need quantity emphasize a mix of extrinsic and intrinsic rewards but if you need quality emphasize more on intrinsic rewards.
But it is also important to note that the hygiene factors if not taken care closely leads to major dissatisfaction across people. So, a healthy mixture of intrinsic motivation vs Hygiene factors leads to more longevity and efficiency of your team members. Look at some key findings below:
